Air Cleaner Decal
In the never ending quest for originality I picked up a couple of water slide decals for the Knecht air cleaner on the Notch - these have been reproduced by Scott from http://vwplusvw1500.blogspot.com/
You too can pick these up from his Samba ad - click the picture of the decal for more info.
It went on a dream - great work Scott - thanks!

NOS Red Needle Tachs are common - (not really!)
Well - first there was Freddy over in Belgium finding his NOS Red Needled Type 3 Tacho a few weeks ago.
Then - guess what - I found one too. Same tacho - different box, but NOS all the same.
6 volt - uber uber rare in the red needle format (and not so common in the white needle either!)
Now the question is - do I install it, or do I keep it on the shelf - the answer will be with you tomorrow!

Project Pigalle Update!
Mike Dempster has sent me some photos with his update on what's going on with his Pigalle Fastback. This weekend he focussed on getting it back up to stock ride height. Most of use would do this by a bit of trial and error - but not Mike - he's got one of the OG VW suspension setting protractors!
Looking good Mike! See you on the road to Ninove!

1970's Nurburgring video - fabulous! watch it now....
Check out this awesome video from the Nurburgring in the 70's - Loads of VW's going round the Nordschleife.
I've driven round it myself - but thankfully I didn't do anything like this.
If you look carefully - you'll also see (along with all the Bugs!) 2 x Notch's, 1 x Square and 1 x Fasty at the following times in the vid.
1.23 black square getting a bit of 2 wheel action
1.59 - white notch rolling - looks like an early one too :-(
3.33 - grey fasty - just about surviving.
3.37 - another white notch rolling it - again - could be an early one!!!!
here are plenty of other hairy crashes in it too!

Trip to Volksrod!
Took the notch down to Volksrod near Loughborough tonight to leave it there a few days. Stewart will be working his magic giving the gearbox a bit of a freshen up - it's been leaving its mark on my driveway recently - but hopefully not for too much longer.

a rare sight
Mike Dempsters LHD Pigalle Red fasty (from when he owned it the first time round!) parked up with “Red Dash Dave’s” RHD a few years back – two Pigalle’s together is indeed a rare sight and now that Dave’s has gone to Belgium (which is where Mike's came from – spooky eh) the chances of getting them together again is quite slim - perhaps if Mike D is going to take the Pig over to Ninove, then I wonder if the current owner of Daves car will be over at that show?????
Freddy - any idea who owns the RHD pig now??????

More pics from Chris' early 62
Couple more pics of Chris' 62 notch with the engine out having a bit of work done on it.
Here you can see the early cylinder heads with the flat inlet ports (later ones -post June 62 I think - were angled) and the early beetle style (but slightly different) oil cooler with the adapter plate to mount it horizontally.
